Why SpaceX considered mars to explore and discover for living. There are many reasons and possibilities which lead to life on Mars. such as

Mars has decent sunlight as it is half again as far from the sun as the earth.

Mars is a little cold, but we can warm it up by increasing temperature.

Its atmosphere has co2, some nitrogen, and argon with a few elements. It means that we can grow plants on Mars.

The day on mars is remarkably close to that of earth.

The Force of gravity at mars is about 38%of that on earth.

The age of mars is 4.5 billion years.


SpaceX is a SPACE EXPLORATION TECHNOLOGIES CORP. an aerospace manufacturer and space transportation service company located in Hawthorne, California.

This aerospace was founded in 2002 by Elon Musk to enable the colonization of mars.


Its achievements include the first privately funded liquid propellent rocket to reach orbit. The first private company to successfully launch orbit and recover a spacecraft. The first company to send spacecraft to the international space station. SpaceX is the first to launch a private spacecraft into orbit around the sun. The first reuse of an orbital rocket. SpaceX becomes the largest commercial satellite constellation operator in the world. SpaceX is almost ready to start building a permanent human settlement on mars with its massive Starship rocket.

SpaceX And Mars:

The private company is on track to launch its first uncrewed mission to Mars in as little as four years from now. The mission will launch to the red planet on a SpaceX starship vehicle, a reusable rocket-and-spacecraft combo currently under development at the company’s facility. As it is a large payload, so to achieve it the spacecraft would first enter earth orbit, where it is expected to be refueled before it departs to mars. After landing on Mars, the spacecraft would be loaded with locally produced propellants to return to earth. The expected payload for the Starship launch vehicle is between 100-150 tons to mars. Why musk wants to go to mars:

Musk has said once that humans need a permanent and self-sustaining presence on mars to ensure “the continuance of consciousness as we know it “_ just in case if planet earth is left uninhabitable by a nuclear war or something like that. so, he started a program to approach and practice existence on mars.


The SpaceX starship is planned to be a long-duration cargo and passenger-carrying spacecraft launched as the second stage of a reusable launch vehicle. On its initial, it will be used on orbital launches with an additional booster stage.

SpaceX and NASA:

SpaceX is a privately owned company founded by Elon Musk. This company offers space launch services. On the other hand, NASA is an organization controlled by the US government. NASA is also the biggest customer of SpaceX.

SpaceX Mars Programme:

This is a development program initiated by Elon Musk and SpaceX to facilitate the eventual colonization of Mars. The program includes reusable launch vehicles, on-orbit propellant tankers, local production of fuels on mars. Elon Musks’ aspirational goal has been to land the first humans on Mars by 2024 but, in Oct 2020 Elon musk named 2024 the goal for an uncrewed mission. SpaceX intends to focus its resources on the transportation part of the Mars colonization project, including the design of propellent plants working on the Sabatier process.

Sabatier process:

It is a process in which water(h2o) and methane by a reaction of hydrogen with carbon dioxide.

SpaceX Starship:

SpaceX starship is a system fully reusable super heavy-lift launch vehicle two-stage to orbit under development by SpaceX. This system has a booster stage name super heavy. The second stage is designed as a long-duration cargo, eventually, a passenger-carrying spacecraft. Starship development began in 2016 as a private self-funded spaceflight project.

In 2019, SpaceX indicated they could potentially launch commercial payloads using starship. Engine development of starship started in 2012.

In April 2020, NASA selected a crew-rated starship system as one of three potential lunar landing systems to receive funding for a 10-month long initial design phase for NASA.

Characteristics of Starship:

The Starship, the upper stage is expected to be a 9m (30 ft) diameter, fully reuseable spacecraft with a dry mass of 120 t or less. It is designed with the ability to re-entering the earth’s atmosphere on a designated landing pad. Starship is also designed with the goal to reach other planets in the solar system after on-orbit propellant loading. The spacecraft is designed to perform on-orbit propellant transfers between starships.

The spaceship is a large long-duration spacecraft capable of carrying passengers to interplanetary destinations. The spaceship design is expected to be flexible, expendable three-engine starship, nor landing legs in order to optimize its mass ratio for exploration.

The material of starship:

Starship has a stainless steel structure some part of a craft is made of stainless steel alloy that” has undergone cryogenic treatment in which metals are dramatically lighter and more wear-resistant than traditional hot-rolled steel.

The spacecraft also has a thermal protection system against the harsh conditions of atmospheric reentry.

Uses of SpaceX starship:
  • It offers long-duration spaceflights to outer space, beyond the earth-moon system.
  • Sending the crew to the international space station and to the lunar gateway space station.
  • Flights to the outer planets of the solar system for cargo and astronauts.


Testing of the second stage began in March 2019 as part of an extensive development program to prove our launch and landing and iterate on a variety of design details. In Dec 2020 Starship prototype performed the first high altitude test flights showing most of the atmospheric re-entry maneuvers. This test was regarded as a success although a hard landing caused the explosion of the prototype. More prototypes have been built, and more are under construction as the design goes through several iterations.


Elon Musk has said that in 2024we definitely launch a Starship on mars which will be successful and our experiment to start a life on mars will be possible.
